Conventions of a Short Film

From my research on short films so far I have found that short films have a good plot and sometimes had a hidden meaning. I have also found out that the short films mostly focus on one or a few main characters instead of having vast amounts of characters which is seen in full length movies. An example of this is the short film 'Geri's Game'which only has one character. Short films also engage the audience right from the beginning in order to encourage the reader to keep watching and to draw them in. This is achieved by the use of a number of different factors. These factors include vast amounts of cut shots used which is done to add pace which keeps the audience interested. Vast amounts of diegetic sound is also used in order to make the audience feel connected with the characters in the film which therefore encourages them to keep watching. The titles used also draws the reader in because a majority of short films, which I analysised, have white titles over a black background. This is done in order to highlight the titles and to make them stand out.
